I used to be pretty firm about what I liked and didn’t like when it came to getting dressed. But somewhere along the way—maybe after 50?—I started to soften those fashion “rules” I had in my head. Turns out, there’s a whole world of style out there I never gave a proper chance. Here are 10 things I swore I’d never wear (but now I love). Let’s dive right!
P.S. I shared two new blog posts today! Don’t miss the other one—it’s full of beautiful coastal finds I think you’ll love.
10 THINGS I SWORE I’D NEVER WEAR (BUT NOW I LOVE)

1. High-Rise Jeans
I was convinced these weren’t for me—too much denim, too structured, too something. But once I found the right pair (hello, semi-stretch), I finally got it. They’re flattering, comfy, and go with everything. I now reach for high-rise jeans more than anything else in my closet.

2. Linen Pants
I used to think they’d wrinkle too much or feel too fussy. Now? I practically live in them when the temps climb. They’re lightweight, elegant, and make even a casual outfit look polished. I especially love pairing them with a breezy matching vest. Shop the look!

3. Satin Textured Pants
This was one of those pieces I thought would sit in my closet, but the texture, fit, and soft shimmer completely won me over. They’re easy to dress up or down and feel like a fun twist on basics. Shop the Look!

4. High-rise Briefs
Okay, I resisted these for years, thinking they were just for comfort days. But now that so many brands make them pretty and practical, I’m a convert. They smooth everything out under clothes and actually make me feel pulled together.

5. Bucket Hats
Bucket hats have made such a stylish comeback, ever since Nancy Meyers movie, Somethings Gotta Give. I love a good neutral raffia one for beach days or even paired with casual summer looks, like this bucket hat I wore on Nantucket. Practical and cute? Yes, please. It’s the perfect coastal grandmother look!

6. Cashmere Sweaters
They always felt too splurgy… until I finally tried one and understood. The softness, the fit, the way it elevates a simple outfit—I totally get the hype now. I reach for mine all season long and treat them with care so they last. Here’s where you can shop my favorite go-to cashmere pieces.

7. Ballet Flats in the Summer
For the longest time, I thought ballet flats were just for fall. But now, with all the raffia, mesh, and lightweight styles out there, they’re a summer staple too. They’re perfect with jeans, dresses, or linen pants.

8. Mesh Ballet Flats
Speaking of… mesh flats felt too trendy at first, but I fell in love with how delicate and feminine they are. They add a pretty texture to even the simplest outfits, and they’re surprisingly comfy. And I’m loving this mesh espadrille too!

9. Large Starfish Earrings
A few years ago I would’ve passed these right by, but now I can’t get enough of them! They add such a fun, coastal pop to my outfits, and honestly? They make me smile every time I put them on. Here are a few I’m loving for this summer: Gold Starfish, Pavé Crystals Starfish, Jeweled Starfish.

10. One-piece Swimsuits
I was always a bikini girl, but the last 10 years I’ve been loving one-pieces for their style and simplicity. The cuts are so flattering now, and with pretty details like ties, ruching, or soft florals, they’re far from boring. This striped scrunchie one piece is going to be my go-top this summer.
Turns out, “never say never” really does apply to fashion. Who knew I’d be twirling in mesh ballet flats and singing the praises of high-rise briefs? Not me! But I’m so glad I gave these style surprises a second chance.
Now it’s your turn—what’s something you swore you’d never wear… but ended up loving? Tell me in the comments or shoot me a message. I love a good fashion plot twist. 😉
