WHAT A NANCY MEYERS SUMMER LOOKS LIKE AT HOME—RIGHT NOW

May 9, 2025

Desiree Leone of Beautifully Seaside shares fun post featuring, What a Nancy Meyers Summer Looks Like—At Home Right Now.

If you’ve ever watched Something’s Gotta Give or It’s Complicated and thought, “I want my summer to feel like that,” you’re not alone. There’s something about the world Nancy Meyers creates—sun-drenched kitchens, simple rituals, coastal charm, and that dreamy feeling of home—that never goes out of style. This summer, I’ve been finding little ways to bring that Nancy Meyers feeling into my own home. It doesn’t take a Hamptons beach house or a gourmet kitchen—just a few intentional touches, cozy habits, and a slower pace that makes everyday life feel a little more cinematic. Here’s what a Nancy Meyers summer looks like at home—right now. Enjoy!

P.S. Check out my other post today on the easy coastal staples I’ll be wearing on repeat this season.

WHAT A NANCY MEYERS SUMMER LOOKS LIKE AT HOME—RIGHT NOW

A Bowl of Lemons on the Counter

It’s simple, timeless, and always present in a Nancy Meyers kitchen. A bowl of lemons adds the perfect touch of color and freshness. I keep mine in a white ceramic bowl on the kitchen island—it makes me happy every time I walk by.

Delicious Breakfast with Family

Think: delicious coffee, warm croissants, maybe a soft-boiled egg. A yummy breakfast on a beautiful plate. Nothing fancy—just slowing down enough to enjoy it. Bonus points for a fresh linen napkin and a little jazz playing in the background.

Linen Throws and Breezy Curtains

Light fabrics make everything feel more relaxed. I switch out heavy throws for soft linen ones, and I love how sheer curtains catch the breeze on warm afternoons. It’s those small, sensory details that make the home feel alive.

Fresh Flowers—Always

Whether it’s hydrangeas, peonies, or wildflowers from the Trader Joe’s, there’s always a little vase of something in my home. It doesn’t have to be a big arrangement—even a few blooms in a bud vase can make a room feel special. This is a beautiful arrangement I created when my son got married last year.

Coastal Touches that Have a Story

A woven basket. A shell collected on a walk. A vintage book or candle in soft blues. These little things remind me of summer days on Nantucket or weekends in the Keys. Nancy Meyers homes always feel personal—like every object has a story. I try to keep that in mind when decorating, too. These shells and beach stones are from my Nantucket collection.

Cooking for the Joy of It (Or at Least Setting the Mood)

Okay, I’ll admit—my husband’s the cook in our home, but I love setting the scene: lighting a candle, putting on music, prepping the salad, pouring a glass of wine. Even takeout feels more romantic when the ambiance is right.

Re-watch the Classics

Sometimes I’ll play It’s Complicated in the background while I fold laundry or clean the kitchen. Just hearing the music, the dialogue, and those California coast scenes puts me in that cozy, inspired mindset. Plus, it’s so funny!

Stacks of Books

Nancy’s characters always have beautiful bookshelves and a perfect little reading nook. I’ve been keeping a small stack of summer reads on the coffee table and making time in the evening to read by lamp light (with Goldie curled up nearby, of course).

A Weekend Happy Hour

There’s something so Nancy about pouring a chilled rosé, slicing a lemon for a spritz, or putting together a tiny cheese board—just for you (or you and your husband). Light a candle, play some soft jazz or a French café playlist, and enjoy that golden hour glow. No reservations needed—just a pretty glass and a moment to savor the season.

When I think about the summers in Nancy Meyers’ films, it’s not about the grand moments—it’s the quiet ones. The time spent with yourself, savoring simple pleasures, and embracing the beauty of the everyday. This summer, I’m focusing on slowing down and infusing my days with small, intentional moments that feel truly special. Whether it’s a leisurely breakfast, a coastal-inspired detail in my home, or a moment of quiet reflection, it’s these little touches that make the season feel like a movie you want to live in. So, here’s to the beauty of your summer—full of sunshine and simplicity.
