A Beautiful Blue & White Tablescape That Feels Like Summer by the Sea

Setting a pretty table always feels like such a love note to the people we gather with—and this one was especially close to my heart. I created this tablescape for a going away lunch to celebrate one of my dearest friends, who is moving to be closer to her new grandbaby. It was bittersweet, but I wanted the setting to feel like a joyful send-off—relaxed, coastal, and full of love—just like our friendship.

We’ve been friends since our boys were just five years old—raising our families side by side, running marathons together, sharing books and stories in our book club, and being each other’s prayer partners, walking buddies, and morning Mass companions. And now, all these years later, our sons are still best friends too. This table wasn’t just for a going away lunch—it was for a friendship that’s weathered every season with love.

This beautiful blue and white tablescape came together with pieces I truly love. I started with natural rattan placemats and scalloped dinnerware trimmed in soft blue—simple, elegant, and timeless. Each setting was layered with blue block-printed napkins and my favorite bamboo flatware. The blue glassware I got from the Target dollar section in the spring added just the right pop of color. I used a beloved Tory Burch floral pitcher as a casual centerpiece.

And the sweetest detail? The end chairs had a comfy pillow with a delicate lily of the valley floral print and ruffle trim. We laughed, shared stories, and clinked glasses in honor of all the years we’ve spent together and the new memories she’s about to make with her growing family.

It truly felt like summer by the sea, right in my dining room.

It reminded me that hosting doesn’t have to be elaborate—it just has to feel thoughtful. A few meaningful touches can create a setting where memories are made and goodbyes feel a little softer.
