Embracing the Empty Nest: Excited for This New Chapter

Well, it’s official—our home is officially an empty nest. All of my boys have moved out, and while part of me can’t believe we’ve reached this chapter, another part of me is really excited for what’s ahead.

For so many years, our house was filled with the happy chaos of raising three boys. Sports equipment by the door, tortoises as pets, big family dinners, and the everyday rhythm of everyone coming and going. And now, for the first time in decades, it’s quiet. A little surreal, but also kind of sweet.

Instead of feeling sad, I’m choosing to look at this season as a gift. It’s a chance for my husband and me to rediscover the little things—quiet mornings, spontaneous date nights, and even just the luxury of having a little extra space around the house (ha ha). I’ve been eyeing corners to refresh, dreaming up cozy updates, and getting excited to make our home feel like our retreat.

Of course, I’ll always treasure the memories of our full, busy home, but I also know this is a season that comes with its own kind of joy. There’s something so special about seeing our boys out in the world, carving their own paths, while we get to cheer them on.

I’m grateful for this new chapter—one filled with more time for family visits, travel, creative projects, and maybe even a little more me-time than I’m used to. It’s a bittersweet transition, but I’m leaning into the sweetness.

And the best part? We already have a big family dinner planned for this weekend, and with my new grandson in the mix, things are getting even better.

Are you an empty nester too?
