I Wanted My Home to Feel Like a Seaside Inn—Here’s What I Added

I’ve always loved the feeling of checking into a charming coastal inn—soft white bedding, the scent of fresh sea air, thoughtful little details that make you want to slow down and stay awhile. So this summer, I started asking myself… what if my home could feel like that too?
Nothing dramatic—just a few intentional changes here and there that made everything feel calmer, prettier, and more like a place I actually want to linger in.
Here’s what I added to bring that relaxed, seaside mood home:
I Wanted My Home to Feel Like a Seaside Inn—Here’s What I Added
1. White + Blue Everything
It wouldn’t be me without a few new blue-and-white pieces! I added striped seersucker napkins, a set of floral pillows (just ordered these), and even a new sheet set for our bed that reminds me of something you’d find in a Nantucket guesthouse.
2. Coastal-Inspired Scents
The second you walk into a good inn, it smells peaceful. I’ve been lighting a fresh ocean or linen-scented candle in the morning and again at night. It instantly makes my home feel calm and pulled together, even when there are dishes in the sink.
3. A Better Guest Towel Situation
I swapped in fluffy white bath and hand towels, plus pretty woven baskets in the bathroom. Even though it’s just us most days, it feels special—like we’re hosting ourselves better.
4. A Few Thoughtful Touches
I added a little glass carafe by my bed (like you’d find in a boutique hotel). Stacked my favorite coastal books on the coffee table and tucked a woven tray in the entry to keep the clutter down.
5. A Morning Ritual Corner
This might be my favorite change. I created a space by the window with my slipcover sofa, a little side table, and a book that I’m reading. It’s my favorite place to sit in the morning with coffee and Goldie by my feet. Peaceful, quiet, and relaxing.
