I’m a chick flick kinda gal and The Holiday is one of my all-time favorite movies. It’s directed by Nancy Meyers, who by the way, is my all-time favorite director. I love all of her movies and I’m sure many of you would agree with me! Tonight I’m going to start my Thanksgiving baking (I’m only baking one thing…a strawberry shortcake) and I will pop in this movie and my husband will probably sit down and watch it with me. You know how guys never say, “hey, let’s watch a romantic comedy tonight”, but my husband always ends up enjoying the movies with me. Well, all of Nancy’s movies are design inspirations and this movie is no different. It takes place in two lovely settings, California and the English countryside. The plot is wonderful and the scenery and decor in both homes is so inviting.
Here’s a little synopsis of the movie I found on IMDd (spoiler alert).
In London, Iris Simpkins write a wedding column in a newspaper and has an unrequited love for her colleague Jasper Bloom. Nearby Christmas, she is informed that Jasper is engaged and will marry another colleague, and her life turns head over heels. In Los Angeles, the movie-trailers maker Amanda Woods has just broken with her unfaithful boyfriend Ethan and wants to forget him. Amanda access a house exchange website, and impulsively swaps her mansion for Iris’ cottage in Surrey for the holiday along the next two weeks. While in Surrey, Amanda meets Iris’ brother and book editor Graham and they fall in love for each other. Meanwhile Iris meet her next door neighbor, the ninety year old screenplay writer Arthur, who helps her to retrieve her self-esteem, and the film composer Miles, and they fall in love for each other.

I don't often comment but I try to catch-up with some of my favorite blogs (yours being one) when I get a break from work/life. But I had to stop to say, I completely agree with you! This is one of my favorite movies..the darling story, the fantastic decorating, plus the Hans Zimmer music…everything about it is warm-fuzzy for me:) Aren't those family room pics from Jude Laws' house rather than Iris? It looks so much bigger than in the movie–maybe deceptive seeing full room shots, though.
My other favorite, Love Actually.
Thought I would add, we have the same taste–J Crew is my FAV store and I always love your picks:) Thanks for your blog. Enjoy your turkey day:)
