MY SKIN CHANGED AFTER 50—HERE’S WHAT’S ACTUALLY HELPED

My skin changed after 50—here's what's actually helped! Desire Leone of Beautifully Seaside shared the exact lineup she used.

I’ve always loved a good skincare moment, but after I turned 50, things shifted. All of a sudden, my usual go-to lotions weren’t doing the trick. My skin felt drier, tighter, and for the first time ever… I got cracked heels. Not fun. So I started paying closer attention and tried a few new things—and thankfully, they worked. These products have made such a difference for me, and I thought I’d share them here in case you’re noticing some of the same changes too. My skin changed after 50—here’s what’s actually helped. This is the exact lineup I’m reaching for every day to keep my skin feeling soft and healthy.

P.S. Want more beauty favorites? I recently shared the tried-and-true products I used all through my 40s—and still reach for at 54.

MY SKIN CHANGED AFTER 50—HERE’S WHAT’S ACTUALLY HELPED

I’ve been a L’Occitane fan forever, but over time I’ve really come to appreciate how incredible their products are for dry skin. If you’re dealing with dryness or rough patches, these are the ones I’d reach for first. Trust me—I’ve tried a lot of different things, and these have made a huge difference for me.

L’Occitane Intensive Foot Balm

This stuff is the real deal. My heels were painfully dry, and nothing was helping—until this. I use it at night with socks and wake up to smoother feet. It’s rich, but not greasy, and really works fast.

L’Occitane Intensive Hand Balm

Between hand washing, dishes, and just life in general, my hands were looking older than I felt. This hand balm is thick, soothing, and makes such a difference. I keep it by the kitchen sink and one in my purse.

L’Occitane Ultra Rich Body Cream for Dry and Sensitive Skin

I apply this right after I shower and it makes my skin feel instantly better—like a drink of water for dry skin. It’s creamy and smells fresh in that classic L’Occitane way. A little goes a long way, and I’ll be keeping this in my rotation for a while.

FACE FAVORITES I’VE USED FOR YEARS

If you’re new to Colleen Rothschild, these are the two products I’d start with. The Sheer Renewal Cream is such a great everyday moisturizer—lightweight, non-greasy, and perfect under makeup. And the Dual Enzyme Polish is a gentle exfoliator that makes your skin feel instantly smoother and brighter. Anytime my face has felt dry over the years, these are the first two I reach for. I’ve used them for a long time now, and they continue to work beautifully—especially on my sensitive skin.

Colleen Rothschild Sheer Renewal Cream

I’ve used this moisturizer for years, and it still holds up. It’s light but hydrating and never leaves my skin greasy. I love how smooth my skin feels after using it.

Colleen Rothschild Dual Enzyme Polish

This is one of the only exfoliators I’ve stuck with. It’s gentle, smells nice, and really helps when my skin’s looking a little tired. I use it once or twice a week and it always leaves my skin softer and brighter.

JUST A NOTE

If you’ve noticed your skin changing too, I hope this list gives you some new ideas to try. These are simple, everyday products that have made a big difference for me—nothing overcomplicated, just really good formulas that deliver.

And with beach days just around the corner, this is the perfect time to get our skin ready—especially if you’re planning to slip into sandals. I’m heading to Nantucket soon, and having soft, healthy skin makes everything feel a little more put together, whether I’m packing my suitcase or going for a barefoot walk on the beach.

For reference, I have sensitive skin and these products have worked really well for me—no irritation, just nourishing results. Let me know if you end up trying any of these favorites!

Our skin goes through so many changes as we get older, and sometimes it takes a little trial and error to find what truly works. I hope sharing what’s helped me gives you a good place to start if you’re navigating the same things. These products have been total game-changers for my dry, sensitive skin—and I’m so glad to have them in my routine, especially with warm weather and beach days on the way. Here’s to feeling good in our skin, no matter the season.
