Why I Wear Coastal Pieces All Year

Every September, the fashion “rules” start rolling in: put away the raffia, store the white denim, trade your stripes for darker tones. But here’s the thing—I never do.

Coastal style isn’t just for summer—it’s a lifestyle. My raffia tote still comes with me in October, I reach for striped sweaters all year long, and white jeans stay in rotation no matter the month. Just like hydrangeas never go out of style, neither do these pieces that feel timeless and effortless.

Instead of boxing things into seasons, I love blending them together. A cashmere sweater with a straw tote. Suede loafers with a crisp striped shirt. Gold sandals with jeans. The mix keeps my wardrobe feeling coastal, classic, and true to me—whether it’s July or January.

So while the fashion world might say coastal belongs to summer, I say it belongs everywhere, all the time. And honestly, that’s the best rule to break.

Even when everyone else packs these away, I can’t imagine my wardrobe without them–

Raffia Tote Bags
My everyday bag, not just for the beach. I carry mine year-round because it goes with everything.
This one is so chic and roomy—shop it here.

White Denim
I know the “rule,” but I never follow it. White jeans with a chunky knit sweater look coastal and polished.
These are my tried-and-true pair.

Striped Sweaters & Shirts
Navy and cream stripes are my neutral. They’re classic for summer but just as good layered under coats in fall.
Obsessed with this new striped pullover.

Gold Sandals
I don’t stop wearing them after August—they look gorgeous with denim and cozy sweaters, too.
These are the prettiest pair I’ve found.

Linen Button-Ups
Layered under cashmere in cooler months, they’re lightweight, crisp, and timeless.
This one is perfectly oversized.

Woven Ballet Flats
The chic sister of the classic ballet flat. They feel breezy but polished enough for fall dinners out.
These come in multiple colors—I love them in gold.

Blue Dresses
I just add a cardigan and they’re good to go.
This blue dress is giving year-round coastal vibes.

Straw Hats & Bucket Hats
Because September sun is still strong (and honestly, I just love how they look).
This one’s a classic that goes with everything.

Nautical Sweaters
These are always fun to wear and remind me of my favorite place–Nantucket.
Love this classic lobster sweater and this adorable hydrangea cardigan.

Do you keep wearing coastal pieces after summer—or do you pack them away until next year?
