Started off my day today with a long run (ten miles to be exact) with a great friend. I’ve always enjoyed running. I’ve been running for many years and in my early twenties, I used to love to run in the rain. Not just a light drizzle, but torrential downpours, where I could barely see in front of me. It was such a feeling of accomplishment that I was doing something that was a little edgy and crazy……I guess, and getting fit at the same time. I would come home fully drenched in fresh, cool rainwater. Haha! Oh, to be young! God is good!
I survived, and now I really have taken my running to a different level. These days, instead of running without a care in the world, I’ve done more research to help prevent injuries (I fractured my pelvis two years ago) and I have finally found running as something fun I could share with a few of my friends. Back in my twenties, people actually thought I was crazy for wanting to run in a marathon.
This year, at forty, I finally did it! I ran my first half marathon after two years of healing and training my legs and core to be stronger. I didn’t have any injuries, and I’m so grateful to the Lord for that! My training for a full marathon starts in September and once again I’ll be running with my best friends who are willing to push themselves to the limit, too!
It feels awesome to dream BIG and see it actually happen!

Oh to have your ambition and drive. I don't love any type of exercise, but I am working on that, more mentally than physically, but I will get there eventually. If you don't use it you will lose it, as the saying goes. Good for You, Bravo and keep it up, you won't regret your hard work as you age!! It will keep you young in body and spirit,Kathysue

Good for you Desiree! I used to love running long distance as a teen (my brother, a Marine, would sometimes run with me)…but after awhile my knees and feet couldn't take it anymore, and then the kiddos came!! I do love long walks with friends however. It is a great stress reliever!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I am sooooo impressed. You must feel on top of the world!! Age is so irrelevant, its mind over matter and age to me is just a number. I know more people who have done things at 40 and 50- things they never could done at 20! Great job…..very inspiring too!

I love running but even if there is a slight drizzle, I won't go out in it! (Excuses, excuses I know!) But I just can't stand being cold and wet and having water drip in my eyes! I am a total chicken when it comes to marathons so hats off to you. Seriously impressive stuff!
