With Valentines Day just around the corner, I love seeing all of the beautiful bouquets of flowers that are gracing the flower stands and specialty food stores like, The Fresh Market. My favorites are peonies and I was so excited to see them growing in a beautiful garden in Cooperstown, NY this summer. They were even more exquisite in person.

Those are indeed beautiful flowers, but they're peonies, not hydrangeas. 🙂
Peonies are my absolute favorite to paint, I love the rich red of the Peony in the first image. I have finished taking a series of Peony photos as reference photos for a collection of large Peony paintings for my solo exhibition later this year. I take my photos at night in a dark room with just a spotlight so I get a lot of light and shadow. My paintings are all about light and shadow and the beauty of flowers.

Yes peonies are one my three favorite flowers. Just wish they lasted longer!! They are aoooo gorgeous though.
