I received many questions about this white slipcovered sofa when I shared my fall home tour last week here on the blog, so today I wanted to answer those questions. It may seem brave of me to have a white sofa with three boys, however over the years I’ve learned some easy steps to keep a white sofa clean or any sofa for that matter. Before I bought my Carlisle slipcover sofa and side chair from Pottery Barn, I did some research. I wanted to make sure the slipcovers were completely washable at home. I learned that the washed linen/cotton blend slipcovers on my sofa can be easily washed in cold water. This was the main buying point for me and I was sold!
Here are a couple of rules we follow while living with white sofas and since these rules have been in effect for years in our home, we barely even have to think about them. First of all, we don’t eat on our sofas. This helps prevent spills happening that will stain the fabric. However, we enjoy eating homemade popcorn when we watch movies and we just make sure to not drop any crumbs on the sofa. Secondly, we take off our shoes before putting our feet up. Just by following these two simple rules you already have a head start on keeping a white sofa clean.

This slipcovered sofa was the best way for me to get the look I wanted for our living room. It’s beachy, over-sized, and comfortable, which was exactly what I was looking for.
How to wash the Carlisle washed linen/cotton blend slipcovers:
Machine wash cold gentle cycle in a commercial washer (without an agitator.) Non–chlorine bleach as needed. Tumble–dry low in a commercial dryer for approx. 30–40 minutes. During drying, open dryer and pull fabric apart to ensure the center dries. Remove when slightly damp and return to furniture. Warm iron as needed. Any wrinkles will smooth out naturally. Do not line dry; weight of wet fabric may cause pulling or stretching. Clean all pieces simultaneously to prevent any color variances. (See all the details for the Carlisle slipcover collection)
