Good morning everyone! How has your week been going so far? Yesterday, I asked my readers on Instastories to give me tips on how to keep my mums alive, because every year they die within a week of my purchase. Many of you responded that the same thing was happening to you in the south and even in New York. Except for one reader who reached out from Canada! She said her mums were thriving and that it’s probably too warm where I live for them. Well, I did some research and found why this is happening here in Florida. First thing I learned is that we should treat them like cut flowers, which means they will not last long. So when we buy our mums the best thing to do is buy them when they have tight flower buds. You are still able to see what color you’re getting by looking at the buds. Buying them in full bloom means they’re at the end of they bloom peak and soon the flowers will decline. I always buy them in full bloom, so this makes total sense. I saw plenty of pots that had tight buds and should have gone for those. Mums are a short-term investment, so we should treat them that way and buy a few to cluster on our doorstep preferably in late October early November when the bloom times last longer. You can learn more here and please let me know what you think. Now I feel better because I thought my mums are withering away from something I was doing wrong. The take-away here is to buy them with tight blooms! How about you?
Now on to today’s outfit! I love wearing capes, so today I decided to share 5 cozy capes for fall, starting with this Madewell cape scarf (found here too). I have to admit, these capes are pretty handy to have around. They’re perfect for layering and traveling, however I forgot to bring mine on the plane the last time I flew. I’ve already made a mental note not to forget it next time, because that plane ride was freezing. Haha! And by the grace of God, I was able to get the only blanket on the plane. #Desireemakesuretopackthecapescarf
I styled this cape scarf with my favorite tie sleeve sweatshirt, jeans, and velvet sling-back flats which helps to dress up this casual look. I featured this look on Instagram and many of my readers seemed to like the look! Below you will find four more capes I’m loving and all you have to do is click on each item to get the shopping details.

Madewell Cape & (here on sale) (one size) // J.Crew Tie Sleeve Sweatshirt & here (tts) // Rag & Bone Jeans (tts) // J.Crew Velvet Sling-back Slides & here (I went up a half size) // Essie Nail Polish // Celine Sunglasses (similar) // CZ Earrings // Williams Sonoma Mug-last season (love this) (and this one) // Target Welcome Doormat (love this too)
2 // I love this convertible sweater cape that just launched at J.Crew. I tried it on in the store while doing my research for this post and it looks amazing on and is super cozy. It’s different from the other capes because this is actually a sweater. All you have to do is unbutton the middle ones to wear it as a cape. It also comes in navy and on sale for 25% off!
3 // I absolutely love this plaid cape scarf by J.Crew! It’s perfect for fall and the Christmas season! Stay tuned for a cozy holiday outfit post featuring this beauty! #iloveplaid
4 // I featured this cape scarf earlier this fall and wore it over a simple white tee. The fabric is lightweight compared to the others I linked today, which makes it great for warmer fall climates. You can also layer it up and pack it for a getaway to keep you warm on a plane.
5 // This buffalo plaid cape is priced just right at $45 and it has pockets! Love the cocoon style that’s perfect for layering in cozy weather.

Ha! I can relate to your mum post. I stopped buying them years ago because they always died so quickly.
Love the cape scarves! I bought a plaid one that goes with everything. Also love the Mules for Fall…they are easy and comfortable.

HiJenn! Yes, I was wondering why mine weren’t living long, so I’m happy I found out what was happening. You can never go wrong with plaid. I’m sure you’re going to get its of use out of it this fall.
