Buongiourno! I’m really happy to share my Rome Travel Diary with you today. Rome was the third city we visited while on the Gate 1 Travel tour in mid-march. As I mentioned in the first post about my Italy trip, I was really pleased with my tour and would do it again in a heartbeat! If you’re looking to see a lot of Italy in a short amount of time, this tour is for you!
In Rome, I visited the Vatican, saw the changing of the Swiss Guard, had my first Roman gelato in front of the Trevi Fountain, toured the Colosseum, ate lots of pizza, walked for miles, saw excavations, visited piazzas, sipped wine, climbed the Spanish Steps, and shopped for Italia t-shirts for my hubby and boys. Rome was amazing and I can not wait to go back! I’m still not able to choose a favorite city in Italy, because they’re all so different. However, the big highlight for me in Rome was getting to tour the Vatican and Sistine Chapel.
If you would like to see more of my amazing Italy trip, check out my first two travel diaries here- Venice and Florence. Have you been to Rome? If you have, what was your favorite thing to do there? By the way, all of my Italy trip photos were taken with my new iPhone X that I purchased two days before I flew to Italy. I use Snapseed to lighten them and ColorStory to add a filter. Both of these apps just brighten the photos to my liking.
The famous Trevi Fountain was a beautiful sight to see! It’s surrounded by buildings with shops and we enjoyed a gelato there in the freezing weather.
We saw lots of fresh flowers, fruit, and souvenirs in each piazza.
This fountain was in the Piazza Navona and life there is filled with open-air cafes and seasonal markets. I bought another scarf there for 5 euros to help keep me warm, even though it was a beautiful sunny day.
We got to see the changing of the Swiss Guard while at the Vatican. I learned that their uniforms resemble those worn during the Renaissance period.
I wanted to get a photo in front of these beautiful doors at the Vatican, so I asked an elderly women if she could take the photo and I thought she did a great job. Ha ha! This was one of the times I almost lost my group, however I could still hear my tour guide with my ear-piece.
Below, I linked everything I wore in Rome. It was pretty cold, so I stayed covered up in my trench coat (runs big, I’m wearing a size 0) that was lined. And with all the walking we did on the cobble streets, I was happy to pack my Superga and Trevorn sneakers. They were very comfortable.

Beautiful pictures! I am sure you have answered this before but these are not from your phone, are they?
desiree says
Hi Suzie!
Yes, these photos are from my iPhone X! I brought my Nikon, but took two shots and thought my phone would be much easier for me to use and it was. Do you like the way they came out? XO, Desiree

Were you comfortable walking a lot in your superga sneaks? I’m going to France this summer and just want an all white sneaker to wear like the Supergas but I find them not very comfortable for long walking days. Any ideas for other choices?
desiree says
Hi Linda,
They felt comfortable to me, however I think the Trevorn sneakers are more comfortable. Have you tried them? If not, you should. They come with a cushion inside. Let me know if you decide to order them. I ordered mine in my normal size and didn’t wear socks.
