Sometimes the little surprises in life end up being the best. Today I thought it would be fun to share 10 Things I Thought I’d Never Like — But I Do! Whether it was a new habit, a style choice, or even a food I didn’t expect to enjoy, it’s funny how our tastes can evolve over time. Here’s my list:
10 Things I Thought I’d Never Like — But I Do
1. Linen Vests and Matching Linen Pant Sets
For the longest time, I thought linen sets were too fussy or high-maintenance for me. Then I found the most beautiful set from Banana Republic, and I completely changed my mind. There’s something so timeless and effortless about slipping into a crisp linen vest and matching pants. It feels polished but still relaxed — a combination I adore now.

2. Skechers Sneakers for Comfort
I used to think I’d never be a Skechers girl — but here we are! I picked up a pair for comfort reasons, and honestly, they’re some of the most supportive sneakers I’ve ever worn. I’m all about finding shoes that feel good and look cute, and Skechers totally surprised me.
3. Weight Training
In my younger years, I never imagined I’d enjoy lifting weights. But at 54, I realize how important strength training is — not just for fitness but for overall health and well-being. It’s empowering to feel stronger with each session.

4. Big Floral Earrings
I always thought big earrings weren’t “my thing” — too flashy, maybe? But I found a beautiful gold-tone flower drop set recently, and they completely changed my perspective. Now, I love adding a statement earring to elevate even the simplest outfit.
5. High-Rise Briefs
This one makes me laugh a little because I was firmly in the “never” camp when it came to high-rise briefs. But let me tell you — comfort wins. They feel so good, they’re flattering, and they pair perfectly under everything from jeans to linen pants. Total convert!
6. Not Painting My Fingernails
For years, I loved the look of polished nails. But a while ago, I decided to let my nails breathe — and surprisingly, I love the simplicity of natural nails. It feels refreshing and low-maintenance in the best way.

7. Orchids
I used to toss my orchids after their blooms faded, not realizing they had so much life left to give. Now I patiently tend to them, and it’s been such a joy to watch them rebloom year after year. They feel like a symbol of slow beauty and care.
8. Salmon
Growing up, I wasn’t a big fan of all seafood. Then one summer on Nantucket, I gave salmon another try — and now it’s one of my favorite meals. There’s something so fresh and comforting about a beautifully cooked piece of salmon. I especially love it over a bed of mashed potatoes! Yum!

9. Avocado Toast
I used to think avocado toast was overrated — just a trendy brunch food. But now, it’s one of my favorite easy meals! I love how customizable it is, whether topped with a sprinkle of sea salt, a drizzle of olive oil, or a dash of red pepper flakes.
10. Cappuccinos
I never imagined I’d be a cappuccino girl, but now I make them almost daily! There’s something so cozy and luxurious about starting the morning with a homemade cappuccino. It’s become one of my favorite daily rituals in my favorite mug (love this mug too).
It’s funny how tastes can change, isn’t it?

It was interesting to read your comment about Skechers! I too thought I would never wear them UNTIL I experienced severe back problems & thought I’d give them a try! They have been a game changer for me in allowing me to walk longer distances without much back pain. I love the Go Walks which are almost slip on once they get broken in a bit!
