When my boys were little, our favorite summer days were the ones that stretched into cozy summer nights. We’d spend the whole day outside—swimming in the pool, running around with their friends, soaking up every bit of sunshine until their cheeks were pink and their hair smelled like salt and sunscreen. I remember how they’d come inside for showers, still chatting and laughing about the games they made up in the water, already asking what movie we were going to watch that night.

Those summer movie nights were everything. We’d gather together for Summer Movie Night with Mom, blankets piled high, lights dimmed, and pick from our favorite classics—Kicking and Screaming, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Sandlot, RV, Star Wars… it didn’t have to be fancy. It just had to be fun. We knew all the lines, and we’d still laugh like it was the first time hearing them.

And of course, there was always popcorn—popped fresh on the stove. My husband would join us too. On rainy summer nights, when the thunder rolled gently in the background and the windows fogged up just slightly from the humidity, it felt like the whole world slowed down in the sweetest way.

Those are the summer memories I’ll hold onto forever. The kind that live in your heart and reappear when the seasons change, just as comforting as ever.
