Hi friends! I’m so excited to share what I read in September 2024, including my review of each book. You might be surprised by my thoughts, but I’ll be sharing my honest opinion. Just a heads-up, even though there are six books in the photo, I’ve only finished three so far—I’ll be reading the other three in October. I guess I got ahead of myself and wanted to show you all the books at the top of my list!
One of my goals this year was to get back into reading more, and I’m happy to say I’m making it happen. Let’s dive into the reviews (spoiler alert below)!
WHAT I READ IN SEPTEMBER 2024
It Ends with Us – by Colleen Hoover
I picked up It Ends with Us without knowing too much about the storyline. The only thing I heared was that it was incredibly popular and loved by many women. I was completely caught off guard when the first scene of domestic violence appeared. It was an emotional read that really opened my eyes to the complexities of abusive relationships.
The story follows the main character, Lily, and we see how her relationship with Ryle slowly unravels. This leads to moments that are tough to read. The writing is powerful, and while the book was quick to get through, some of the disturbing scenes, especially when Lily and her mother faced abuse from their husbands, were hard to process. It made me think deeply about the reality of domestic violence and the difficult decisions that come with it. A must-read for anyone looking for a story that’s both heartbreaking and empowering.
It Starts with Us – by Colleen Hoover
After finishing It Ends with Us, I couldn’t wait to pick up It Starts with Us, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. This sequel takes the story further, giving readers closure and showing what happens to the characters we’ve grown attached to. I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you loved the first book, you absolutely need to read this one. It dives into the aftermath of everything Lily has gone through and explores her relationships moving forward.
The pacing is quick, and while the emotional intensity from the first book remains, this one feels more like a healing journey for the characters. It’s a great follow-up that gives you a sense of hope and resolution. Definitely worth reading if you’re curious about what the future holds for Lily and the other characters.
The Perfect Couple – Elin Hilderbrand
The Perfect Couple was quite a departure from my usual reads, but I was intrigued by the setting—a murder mystery on Nantucket. I’m always drawn to anything set on the island, so I couldn’t resist picking it up. The book centers around solving a murder that occurs during a wedding, which adds so much suspense and drama.
I’ll admit, it took me a little longer to get through since it’s not the typical genre I gravitate toward. However, I was determined to finish it, especially because I wanted to watch the Netflix adaptation afterward. What kept me going was the clever plot twists that keeps you guessing about who’s responsible for the murder. If you love a good whodunit with a coastal twist, I’d recommend giving this one a try, especially if you’re in the mood for something a bit different!
What I’m Reading in October
I’m excited to dive into another book from my October reading list—The Wedding People, Funny Story, and Swan Song. If you have any suggestions for fun, rom-com-style reads, I’d love to hear them! Feel free to share in the comments. Thanks, and happy reading!
